How to Play

From any article to any other, one link at a time.

The goal

A Wikipedia race (also called a wiki race, a wikirace, the Wiki Game or a Wikipedia speedrun) starts with two random Wikipedia pages: a Start Page and a Target Page. Your goal is to get from the Start to the Target by clicking only the links inside the articles.

The rules

Read the current article and look for blue hyperlinks that might lead you closer to your target. Click a link to travel to that page.

You can only use the links within the article body. Using the search bar or external tools is considered cheating (and disabled in the game interface).

You also get one read-only look at the target page per race; the timer keeps running.

Example race

A real route, three clicks long:

  1. Honey
  2. Bee
  3. Ancient Greece
  4. Mount Olympus

3 clicks

Winning

The first player to reach the target page wins the race. Every game has a time limit, set when it is created.

Game modes

  • Classic — race friends or an open game, one or more races per game.
  • Today's Odyssey — the same two pages for every player, raced solo.
  • Elimination — 2 to 8 players; last place is out each round.
  • Tournaments — scheduled events where the final pays like Formula 1: 25 pts for the winner, then 18, 15…, and 1 pt for everyone else who plays.

Pro Tip

Broad topics like "United States" or "Science" act as hubs. Try to navigate to these general pages first to access a wider range of links!

Today's Odyssey

Everyone races the same two pages today.
